Have students discuss the criteria for World Heritage Sites and debate the importance of designating and protecting resources of “outstanding universal value.” Also research government buildings in your own community.
Research local resources such as parks, historic sites, monuments,cemeteries and local landmarks. Consider what roles they play in your community.
Look at the geological wonders in your local area. Are these wonders being preserved and if not, should they be?
Compile a list of historic structures in your community and research their history. If possible, arrange to visit one.
What natural, physical features are around your community? Do you live in flat prairie, near the ocean or in a mountainous area? What geography makes your area unique?
